On May 8-9, 2013, TrustAfirca and the National Council of Higher Education (NCTE) in Accra, Ghana, hosted a dialogue on the state of higher education in Ghana, titled "Repositioning Tertiary Education for National Development." Highlights of the conference included a keynote address by the Minister of Education, Hon. Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and a historical analysis of Ghana's educational system and its relation to development, offered by former Vice Chancellors of the University of Ghana, Professor Ivan Addae-Mensah and Professor Clifford Tagoe.

The meeting also served as a forum for discussing the preliminary findings of the scoping study commissioned by TrustAfrica on higher education in Ghana.

The African Higher Education Dialogues are a three-year project designed to offer a platform for the strengthening and transformation of higher education in Africa. The three strategic imperatives of the project include:

  • Build an effective platform for engaging in the formulation and implementation of higher education policies in Africa;
  • Initiate and sustain policy dialogues among key stakeholders in Africa; and
  • Leverage resources for higher education transformation in Africa.
