TrustAfrica promotes security sector accountability

Dakar, Senegal – TrustAfrica with the support from Open Society Foundations (OSF) is implementing a pan-African project to strengthen the voices of citizens and advocate for accountability of the security sector during and post COVID 19 lockdown measures.

The Security Sector Accountability (SPaCVOSSA) project is being implemented with four civil society partners in countries distributed across different regions of the continent.

The project conducts country-level and pan-African level interventions that include research into the impact of securitised lockdown measures on vulnerable communities, hosts citizen forums, and conducts advocacy initiatives raising the awareness of government agencies and African institutions.

In East Africa, the project is being implemented in partnership with the CSO Network which works in Western Kenya and has experience in peacebuilding, civic education, elections, and justice for women.

The Zimbabwe Human Rights Association (ZimRights) which is the biggest grassroots human rights organisation in Zimbabwe with nearly 30 years’ experience in human rights advocacy and peacebuilding is implementing the project in Southern Africa.

Spearheading the project in West Africa is the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD), which has over a decade of experience in promoting transparency and accountability in Nigeria.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Central Africa, a Francophone partner the Youth Program for the Development of Africa (YPDA) is partnering TrustAfrica in the project.
