The “Ecole Regionale Superieure de la Magistrature” (ERSUMA) or the Higher Regional School of the Judiciary, a sub-regional organization for “the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa” will be hosting a workshop on Tuesday, March 13 at 9:30 AM that will be videocast in the capital cities of several countries throughout West Africa, including Bamako, Dakar, Niamey, Lomé and Ouagadougou.  The workshop is to discuss the findings of a study that was financed by TrustAfrica’s Investment Climate and Business Environment (ICBE) project on the topic “The Difficulties of Debt Recovery by SMEs in the WAEMU (West African Economic and Monetary Union: the Case of Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali and Senegal.”  The videocast will be available in the media centers of the “Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie” (AUF).  The workshop will be opened by the General Director of ERSUMA, as well as Mr. Sunday A. ICBE is sponsoring a Proposal Writing workshop on February 7-8, 2012 in Douala, Cameroon. The goal of the workshop is to enhance the proposal writing skills of young researchers and, in particular, potential candidates who might receive an award from the ICBE Research Fund.

The workshop will host 16 researchers who have been invited from 15 countries including: Burkina Faso, Burundi, Chad, Ethiopia, Ghana, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Swaziland, Tanzania and Togo. Through the ICBE Research Fund, TrustAfrica awards research grants aimed at building knowledge about investment climates and business environments in Africa and endeavors to ensure this knowledge is shared with policymakers and other relevant stakeholders.

At this workshop in Cameroon, TrustAfrica convened researchers from three Central African nations to discuss the work they have been undertaking with support from our Investment Climate and Business Environment (ICBE) Research Fund. A total of 14 participants from three countries presented progress reports on their research projects: ten from Cameroon, three from the Republic of the Congo (Brazzaville), and one from the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

A workshop on research methodology and writing grant proposals was held July 24-28, 2006, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Forty researchers from more than 20 countries took part in this capacity-building component of the Investment Climate and Business Environment (ICBE) Research Fund. The diversity of academic and cultural backgrounds found among these high-profile participants, the quality of the interventions, the sharing of experiences and knowledge and the broadening and densification of this network of researchers were the highlights of this successful event.

November 9, 2012 -  Academic intellectuals from across West Africa have raised concerns about the decay of education system in Africa.

At a two-day consultative policy dialogue in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, they are specifically reviewing the concept of world class institutions, international cooperation and global networking amongst African universities.

The policy dialogue is jointly organized by TrustAfrica and the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities with the aim of improving the higher education system in Africa.

December 2, 2012 -  The Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian (CVC), said on Saturday that Nigerians spend an average of 500 million dollars annually to European and American universities.

This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of a two-day Consultative Policy Dialogue on the Future and Relevance of the Nigerian Universities and other Tertiary Institutions, organised by CVC and TrustAfrica, Dakar.
