The theme of the Assembly is: “What’s New? What’s Now? What’s Next? Growing African Philanthropy.” The assembly will survey the diverse landscape of philanthropy in Africa, showcase innovations, explore Africa’s changing landscape, and craft a shared agenda to build the field of African philanthropy for development effectiveness. the idea is to facilitate a unique form of engagement across a broad spectrum of social issues and actors. Fresh approaches to big issues like poverty, new wealth, inequality and social exclusion will be explored to inspire a practice of African philanthropy that is in touch with Africa’s new realities.
ABOUT AGN: African Grantmakers Network (AGN) is a continent-wide network of African grantmaking organizations that facilitates networking and experience sharing among established and emerging African philanthropic institutions. AGN aims at consolidating the voice for African philanthropy to address social justice and development issues on the continent. Launched in 2009, AGN serves as a platform for peer learning and facilitator of good practice in African philanthropy. It does this by creating partnerships and linkages with African Grantmakers and other philanthropic organizations with a shared vision with an aim of highlighting local voices in the development arena as well as promoting African development perspectives on global platforms.
