The Pan Africa Conference on Illicit Financial flows and Taxation is an annual convening that brings together key stakeholders involved in efforts to curb IFF and enhance domestic resource mobilisation in Africa. The platform draws together actors from governments, civil society, International organisations, legislators, media, academia and national campaigners to take stock of the current state of play on the IFF agenda in Africa as well as progress made through global, regional and country level initiatives. The conference seeks to also act as a platform to articulate problems, propose solutions and explore opportunities for collaboration and common action.

Working through collaboration is central to our approaches at TrustAfrica. From our experience, collaboration has meant managing a complex set of relationships with like-minded groups working together to achieve common goals. Oftentimes this has entailed working as part of consortiums, networks, learning groups, communities of practice, strategic alliances, partnerships and coalitions. For us, collaborations have enabled innovation and served as a means to greater collective impact in tackling some of the continent’s most complex development challenges.

On 10 and 11 March 2021, TrustAfrica in partnership with the Thomson Reuters Foundation convened 110+ media and civil society practitioners from xxx  to discuss and debate the issue of illicit financial flows (IFF) from Africa in the Covid-19 era.

The virtual convening focused on the theme: ''Strengthening the collaboration between the media and civil society in the fight against illicit financial flows (IFFs) from Africa in the Covid-19 era." The convening was part of the 2021 edition of the Media-Civil Society Meeting on Illicit Financial Flows in Africa.

The meeting aimed to 'create a space for African journalists covering IFFs to engage with civil society organisations and other relevant stakeholders'.

The goal was to develop strategies on how media reporting on IFFs can best translate into an effective resource for advocacy efforts and constant pressure for policy change, particularly in the Covid-19 era.
