In this workshop, participants from across the continent analyzed the strengths and weaknesses of existing attempts at regional integration, both economic and otherwise. They also debated ways civil society might strengthen these efforts through research, advocacy, networking, and communications. Many speakers emphasized the importance of making the processes and institutions associated with regional integration more responsive to the needs of people. Before returning home, the participants proposed a broad framework, with many concrete elements, that guides TrustAfrica’s work in this area.
