BuildingMovement

At TrustAfrica, we are committed to amplifying African voices within the international donor community. But we don’t stop there. We are also working to generate new philanthropic resources — and cultivate a greater degree of African ownership — by raising money from individuals and corporations in Africa and throughout the African diaspora. Our goal is to inspire 10,000 individuals to contribute US$100 per year. While ambitious, this effort is an essential way to ensure that TrustAfrica can be self-sustaining and that Africans take ownership of our program. Donate now and help TrustAfrica make a difference!

TrustAfrica has no interest in competing with, or diverting funds from, other worthy organizations in Africa. Rather, by developing a cohesive African response to pressing challenges, we seek to attract additional resources that will benefit leading institutions throughout the continent.

Carnegie Corporation

Andrew Carnegie envisioned Carnegie Corporation as a foundation that would “promote the advancement and diffusion of knowledge and understanding.” In keeping with this mandate, our work incorporates an affirmation of our historic role as an education foundation but also honors Andrew Carnegie's passion for international peace and the health of our democracy. While Mr. Carnegie’s primary aim was to benefit the people of the United States, he later determined to use a portion of the funds for members of the British overseas Commonwealth. Currently, this area of our grantmaking focuses on selected countries in sub-Saharan Africa. View Website

Open Society Foundations

The Open Society Foundations work to build vibrant and tolerant societies whose governments are accountable and open to the participation of all people.

We seek to strengthen the rule of law; respect for human rights, minorities, and a diversity of opinions; democratically elected governments; and a civil society that helps keep government power in check. We help to shape public policies that assure greater fairness in political, legal, and economic systems and safeguard fundamental rights.

We implement initiatives to advance justice, education, public health, and independent media. We build alliances across borders and continents on issues such as corruption and freedom of information. Working in every part of the world, the Open Society Foundations place a high priority on protecting and improving the lives of people in marginalized communities.

The Wiliam and Flora Hewlett Foundation

The Hewlett Foundation makes grants to solve social and environmental problems at home and around the world. Our grantees are working to reduce poverty in the developing world, curb carbon emissions that lead to climate change, and improve education for students in California and elsewhere, among many other valuable goals.

While the goals of the Foundation are about problems that we're trying to solve, our Foundation is organized in such a way that grants are made from particular programs. We've tried to provide sufficient information about each program's grantmaking to give the visitor a comprehensive understanding of what we fund and why.

IDRC CRDI

To achieve self-reliance, poor communities need answers to questions like: How can we grow more and healthier food? Protect our health? Create jobs? A key part of Canada’s aid program since 1970, IDRC supports research in developing countries to answer these questions.

IDRC also encourages sharing this knowledge with policymakers, other researchers, and communities around the world. The result is innovative, lasting local solutions that aim to bring choice and change to those who need it most. A key member of Canada’s foreign aid program, we are one of the world’s leaders in generating and applying new knowledge to meet the challenges facing poor countries.
