Blantyre, Malawi November 8,2022: Tea stakeholders from seven tea producing countries meeting in Malawi came up with various ways of increasing market by advocating for the harmonization of the multiple Tea standards and certification requirements to ensure that compliance is more accommodative and cost efficient.
The 94 participants from Burundi, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Rwanda, Uganda and Tanzania came together in Blantyre, Malawi on the 27th,October 2022 during a Regional multi-stakeholder workshop.
The theme of the workshop was: Fostering Genuine and Inclusive Sustainability in the Tea Value Chain.

Southern African Trust, African Philanthropy Network and TrustAfrica are pleased to announce the appointment of the eminent international music star, Baaba Maal, as the voice of marginalized People in Africa. These three pan-African organisations are collaborating under the umbrella of Community Immunity initiative to provide quick-impact support that will bring immediate relief to marginalized communities and people living at the margins of society. The initiative will also provide broad-based support to policy initiatives aimed at proferring long term solutions that will ameliorate the living conditions of poor and marginalized groups in Africa. Towards this objective, the initiative will, among other things, leverage on the public appeal of well-known celebrities, including athletes, artistes and civil society actors, as a platform to reach the unreached and provide succor to the most affected people in society.

Dakar, Senegal – On Monday, TrustAfrica celebrated its 10th Anniversary in Almadies Ngor, Dakar, Senegal. The celebrations were attended by leading civil society actors, policy makers and well-wishers.
6 June 2016, marked 10 years since TrustAfrica was launched as an independent organization working to strengthen African initiatives and secure conditions for democracy and equitable development on the continent.
As part of his anniversary remarks, TrustAfrica Executive Director, Dr. Tendai Murisa acknowledged the foresight and contributions of all of those who were part of the journey and assured them that their vision and was still at the core of the organization.
The celebrations fall under the theme “Looking back, Looking ahead: African Philanthropy for Socioeconomic and Political Justice in the 21st Century” and will unfold over the next four months in celebratory events to be held in Senegal, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and Liberia.
Arusha, March 8th, 2016 - TrustAfrica and the Coalition for an Effective African Court (CEAC) are convening African civil society from across the continent to promote their engagement with the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights (AcHPR). The meeting aims to advance victims’ rights and access to justice through the African Charter establishing the Court. It will be open to journalists with prior accreditation and registration.
Arusha, le 8 mars 2016 – TrustAfrica et la Coalition pour une Cour africaine efficace (CCAE) convient la société civile à travers tout le continent à une rencontre visant à promouvoir l’engagement de celle-ci avec la Cour africaine des droits de l’homme et des peuples (CADHP). Cette rencontre, destinée à faire avancer les droits des victimes et leur accès à la justice à travers la Charte africaine portant création de la Cour, est ouverte aux journalistes ayant au préalable obtenu leur accréditation et s’étant enregistrés.
Le procès de l’ancien Président du Tchad, Hissein Habré, débute ce 8 février la dernière phase du premier chapitre avec les plaidoiries des avocats des deux parties et le réquisitoire du Procureur. Ceux-ci devraient conduire à un premier verdict sur la phase criminelle du procès en mai 2016.

The trial of former Chadian President, Hissène Habré, resumes today, February 8th, 2016, in Dakar, Senegal. The lawyers from both sides will be making their final oral arguments in a week expected to see proceedings come to a close before a verdict is given in May 2016.
The Habré trial reached a major milestone on December 15th, 2015, the day the last witness testified before the Extraordinary African Chambers (EAC) in Dakar, Senegal. The EAC was set up under an agreement between the Government of Senegal and the African Union with a mandate to try serious crimes allegedly committed in Chad between 1982 and 1990.

Officiellement ouvert le 20 juillet 2015, ce procès a connu une suspension de 45 jours, suite au refus des avocats de l’ancien Président tchadien de se présenter à la barre et à la nomination consécutive d’avocats commis d’office afin d’assurer la défense de l’accusé.

The trial officially opened on 20 July 2015 but was immediately suspended for 45 days following the defense counsels’ refusal to appear before the Court and subsequent nomination by the Presiding Judge of court-appointed lawyers for the defendant.

The convening, "A Decade of CAADP: Reflections on Key Outcomes of Agricultural Policy Reforms in Africa," aims to raise awareness about the role of agriculture in development and to give voice to those most affected by agricultural development policies, particularly smallholder farmers. The keynote speaker for the conference will be Mr. Charles Abugre Akelyira, Africa Regional Director of the UN Millennium campaign, based in Nairobi.

Au niveau communautaire, la philanthropie africaine consiste en des mécanismes séculaires d'épargne communautaire tels que les tontines (stokvels) et les sociétés funéraires, ce qui qui illustre le concept d'Ubuntu selon lequel « un individu trouve son existence en tant qu'être humain dans sa relation à autrui, mais pas en restant isolé ».

DAKAR – According to a report by the organization Global Financial Integrity, if Africa were able to stop the financial flows pouring from the continent, it would have more than enough to wipe out its external debt of about $250 billion (as of 2008). Illicit financial flows in Africa, which include drug smuggling, tax evasion, over-invoicing and underpricing is a problem that stems from collusion between governments and multinational corporations and is made worse by a lack of expertise on how to negotiate a mutually beneficial arrangement and by a lack of accountability.
DAKAR - TrustAfrica is pleased to announce a new project, "The Fund to Advance International Criminal Justice in Africa." The project is a follow-up to a series of meetings on International Criminal Justice, the most recent of which took place in Nairobi, Kenya at the end of 2011. The $1.5 million, multi-donor effort seeks to ensure greater collaboration and accountability among African states to transform the field of international criminal justice in Africa.
