TrustAfrica works with partner organizations in all five subregions of Africa and the diaspora. However, we do not fund local or national initiatives, with the exception of a few very small grants for capacity building. Instead, we focus on regional partnerships that promote cooperation across borders and advance regional solutions.

Indeed, with the creation of the African Union and the New Partnership for Africa’s Development, we feel the time is ripe for exploring regional and multiregional solutions. Our first workshops have already sparked dialogues and built networks that span the continent. Likewise, many of our grants support initiatives that are having an impact across Africa — by stemming the flow of small arms, for example, easing the flow of ideas, and presenting a unified voice in international trade negotiations. Even when the issues at hand appear quite localized, we look for ways to adapt strategies that have proven successful elsewhere on the continent.
